Swing & Solve is a fast-paced 2D side-scroller that reimagines platforming with a unique swinging mechanic at its core. Players must navigate dynamic levels by mastering momentum, using precision swings to overcome obstacles, traverse gaps, and solve clever puzzles in real time.
Level design is built entirely around the swinging mechanic, ensuring every challenge feels natural and rewarding. Platforms, grapple points, and hazards are strategically placed to test players’ ability to control their movement, forcing them to think creatively as they adapt to each level’s unique layout. Instead of overwhelming players with numerous mechanics, Swing & Solve embraces limited mechanic design, using just a few core abilities in innovative ways to create puzzles that are simple to learn but difficult to master.
By blending fluid movement with smart level design, Swing & Solve delivers an exhilarating puzzle-platforming experience that pushes players to refine their skills and think outside the box.
The main mechanic is to allow the player to swing from the web so I looked to design a level that made the player rely on the mechanic and gave the player a reason to use it. Also applying flow theory alongside level design to teach players how to use the mechanic.
Using sub-mechanics such as moving boxes I designed puzzles that made the player think on how to use the core mechanic and sub-mechanics together. For example, using the box to reach a web point as well as swinging with the box to reach new areas.
